Muranga SEAL endures a narrow defeat to Kariobangi Sharks with 1-0 loss
The Seals narrowly fell to a solitary goal against relegation-threatened Kariobangi Sharks, a second consecutive loss under new coach Dennis Odhiambo.
For Dennis Odhiambo’s men in Blue, this weekend was another lost opportunity for redemption. After a tough match against Nairobi United, we took on Kariobangi Sharks, a veteran team whose fortunes have dwindled over the past few weeks, with no wins in the past 4 matches. Despite eventually losing the match, our fast start was encouraging. The gaffer’s post-match comments on our defence were an inspiration. Sharks are known for their open brand of entertaining short passes and one-touch football, but despite the recent dip in form, our attacking prowess this season has demonstrated that we deserve a seat among the big boys. Unfortunately, this was yet another loss for Murang’a SEAL, who went down to a solitary goal early in the first half.
This weekend’s loss was a stark contrast to last weekend. It was the attack that seemed devoid of confidence, and the defence that stood firm. Kariobangi Sharks forward Steve Mbulere broke the deadlock early in the game, pouncing on a defence-splitting pass and somehow placing it over and through the hands of the onrushing goalkeeper. From then on, it was a one-sided show that saw Kariobangi Sharks miss chance after chance, with Murang’a SEAL having keeper Ongiri to thank for the score remaining respectable.
The win got Kariobangi Sharks temporarily out of the relegation zone, giving them hope that they might yet survive. For Murang’a SEAL and coach Dennis Odhiambo, this was a chance to see his boys in a low-pressure environment after last week’s baptism of fire against Nairobi United. After a second loss in as many weeks, he will be looking to turn his fortunes around next fixture against Kenya Police as the league approaches the business end.
