Redemption against Kakamega Homeboyz: MSEAL FC wins 1-0 at Sportpesa Arena

Murang'a Seals ended a difficult run in Matchweek 31 with a narrow but vital win over Kakamega Homeboys. After weeks of narrow losses and heavy defeats, the team finally found their spark. The decisive moment: a long ball found Michael Macharia, who flicked it on to captain Joe Waithera, who buried it in the top corner. The win marks Dennis Odhiambo's first as head coach, with Gor Mahia up next.

Matchweek 31 came with good fortune for the Seals, a confident, solitary goal win against Kakamega Homeboys at the Sportpesa Arena.

It had been a long two-month period for the seals, with narrow losses and humbling defeats against some of the big boys in the league. Early-season form meant the relegation scrap was no longer a worry. Having the team stuck in the bottom half was disheartening to the fans, though. The seals maintain one of the most active and vibrant fan bases in the league. Eventually, it was the fans that pushed the team to the win, with the influential bog boys again showing that form is temporary but class is permanent.

Last week’s goalscorer Victor Haki was in an inspiring early form, making several forays into the opposition box and finding the side netting a few times. It was always going to be a difficult match, with Kakamega Homeboys hitting their characteristic long passes into the box that the Seals' defence just about dealt with. The team was light in confidence, but with little to lose, the handbrake seemed to come off in this match.

The goal was not the most beautiful, but perhaps the most important in the past few weeks for the seals. Murang’a Seals showed they could mix it up, a long ball from deep found Michael Macharia, who then flicked it on to Captain King Joe to do what he does best, and he did not disappoint. The Mercurial Joe Waithera found the top corner with an unstoppable left-footed shot. The Seals front 4 continued to trouble the Homeboys ' defence, but were mostly limited to long-range shots that failed to beat goalkeeper Brian Odhiambo again.

The match ended with the solitary goal, a celebratory moment for Seals coach Dennis Odhiambo, his first win as head coach.

The seals hope to carry the confidence-boosting win into next week, where they will face table toppers Gor Mahia, another big challenge the boys are sure to turn up for.
