End of the 25/26 Season: Seals Save the Best for Last 🎉

End of the 25/26 Season: Seals Save the Best for Last 🎉

Sportpesa arena roared as Jackson Imbiakha's towering header crashed into the net; Murang'a SEAL's perfect send-off to their fans. From an early sucker-punch conceded at the back post, to King Joe's clever decoy and Tony Musa's clinical finish, the Seals authored a gritty, character-filled comeback. An 8th-place finish, hard-earned.

After a season where fans saw some incredible highs and some of the lowest lows, the Seals victoriously ended the season, defeating the visiting Mara Sugar 2-1 to finish 8th in the league. The past few weeks have been quite controversial for Mara Sugar. A visit to Murang’a was therefore much welcome for the Awendo-based team. The seals, as always, remained gracious hosts and were welcoming off the pitch.

Despite the strong turnout and vocal home support, the game started sourly for the home team, conceding from a corner in just the 5th minute. Poor marking at the back post gave Mara Sugar a gift of a free header. This was a rather puzzling lapse in concentration early in the match, which Mara Sugar fully capitalised on to go 1-0 up.

From then on, though, it was all Murang’a SEAL. The stubborn Mara Sugar held on till the 74th minute when the seals eventually got a much-deserved breakthrough after consistent pressure. This time, league top scorer Joe ‘King Joe’ Waithera turned provider with a laid off assist to the quick Tony Musa. Mara Sugar defenders were all over King Joe, and recognising the advantage, he drew three defenders to him and laid off the ball to Musa, who whipped a left-footed shot to the bottom corner to equalise.

The winning goal came barely three minutes later, and this time it was Mara Sugar’s turn to rue their poor defending. Jackson Imbiakha rose highest from a corner to power his header past the onlooking Mara Sugar keeper and send the St. Sebastian crowd into a frenzy. This was a befitting three points at home in front of a loyal fanbase that has not had the smoothest few weeks to end the season. Coach Dennis Odhiambo will be glad to have completed another home and away double over Mara Sugar, a win that sees MSEAL finish 8th in the final Kenya Premier League table.

Looking forward to the next season!!
