Seals show grit but fall short; 2-1 loss against Kenya Police FC
Muranga SEAL met the Kenya Police FC at the Police Sacco grounds on Wednesday, May 6th and unfortunately lost 1-0 to the hosts.
It has been a testing run of fixtures lately, with Muranga SEAL facing their 5th loss in the second leg of the season; make no mistake, however, to think that it has been easy, they stepped onto that pitch with the same hunger and determination that defines the football club.
Police struck the first blow, a moment of lax defending allowing Eric Zakayo a free shot on goal after wonderful play by lawmakers’ frontline. The early goal, which came in the 3rd minute of play, seemed to awaken MSEAL, who, despite strong opposition from Police, managed to net an equaliser through Victor Haki in the 37th minute.
Captain Joe showed glimpses of his past form that saw him become one of the most valuable players in the league and put Haki through. Knowing how marked a man he would be, he let the ball run through to Victor Haki, taking two defenders with him. Haki made no mistake from the edge of the box, slotting home past the Police goalkeeper to make it 1-1.
The match settled into a tactical tug of war. Police were chasing 3rd spot on the league after an inconsistent few weeks, with Murang’a looking for a semblance of pride after a difficult 6-week period. It was Harambee Stars CHAN captain Abuid Omar, who eventually broke the deadlock late in the match with 7 minutes of regulation time remaining. His free kick from 35 yards out provided a moment of quality deserving of such a tight match.
Speaking after the match, the interim coach Odhiambo noted that his side had improved and played their hearts out despite the early setback. It was only a rare moment of quality from Police Captain Abuid Omar that was their undoing. For MSEAL FC, focus turns to Kakamega Homeboys at home on Sunday, another must-win fixture. MSEAL remains in 11th position with 38 points.
